No Favorites

“Peter fairly exploded with his good news: ‘It’s God’s own truth, nothing could be plainer: God plays no favorites!’” Acts 10:34 (MSG)

Peter is standing in the home of Cornelius, a Roman centurion. This was a huge deal because Jews and Gentiles did not associate, let alone share meals and faith stories. But God had given Peter a vision that shattered his old mindset. Now, watching the Holy Spirit move on people outside his tradition, Peter blurts out the truth: God does not play favorites. His love is for everyone, no filter, no exceptions.

God is not impressed by resumes or religious rituals. He responds to hearts that are open. While we might size people up based on titles, backgrounds, or appearances, God looks deeper and He does not rank His kids.

There was a time I thought being used by God required a certain look, experience, or platform. I would see others getting opportunities and wonder, What about me? But over time, and often in quiet, unfiltered moments, God reminded me He sees the heart. He does not compare. And He never overlooks. One of the most powerful moments I have had with God was not on a stage or during a service but in my car, praying with tears and no plan. And He met me there. No spotlight needed.

Here is what I have learned from those hidden encounters:

  1. God sees the unseen. You do not have to be in the spotlight or get noticed by people to be known by God. He sees the quiet prayers, the hidden struggles, and the moments when no one else is watching. Your faithfulness behind the scenes matters just as much if not more than any public recognition. God’s attention is not earned by popularity; it is given to the sincere heart.

  2. God chooses based on availability not popularity. God does not pick people because they have the biggest following or flashiest skills. He chooses those who say yes and show up no matter how ordinary they feel. Availability is the key. If your heart is open and ready, God is ready to use you in ways you cannot even imagine.

  3. Grace does not have favorites. There is no VIP section in heaven. No elite list of people who get special treatment. God’s grace is for everyone rich, poor, famous, unknown. The only thing that matters is faith trusting in Him and His love. It is not about who you are or what you have done; it is about what He is doing in you.

As we reflect on these truths about God’s faithfulness and grace, let us take a moment to pray together:

God, thank You that You do not play favorites. You see me. You love me. You call me as I am not based on what I have done but based on who You are. Help me walk with confidence not comparison. And help me extend the same grace to others that You have given to me. Amen.

Make it Personal:

  1. Do I believe God sees me even when no one else does?

  2. Am I willing to be available for what God is calling me to no matter how small or unseen it feels?

  3. Am I ready to accept God’s grace without trying to earn a special place or approval?
