The Weight You Weren’t Meant to Hold

“Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:7

Somewhere between responsibility and overwhelm, I realized I might be carrying things I was supposed to be casting.

Not everything heavy is yours to hold.

Some things are yours to carry.

Your calling.
Your obedience.
Your attitude.
Your next faithful step.

But some things were never meant for your shoulders.

The outcome.
Everyone’s approval.
Tomorrow’s “what ifs.”
The pressure to control everything.

Those things belong in God’s hands.

I wonder if part of our exhaustion comes from mixing up the two.

We carry anxiety but cast responsibility.

Or we carry control while neglecting trust.

Here’s a simple question to ask yourself today:

Is this something God is asking me to steward or something He’s asking me to surrender?

Carry what is yours.

Cast what isn’t.

Because you were given shoulders for responsibility, not sovereignty.

Prayer

God, help me discern what is mine to carry and what is mine to cast. Give me wisdom to steward my responsibilities well, but humility to release the burdens that were never meant for me. Teach me to trust Your care more than my control. Amen.

Reflection

What burden have you been carrying that God may be inviting you to cast onto Him?
